I’ve decided to try to compile my grappling record. I am going to list them by BJJ rank and year. There’s only white belt LOL (6 year white belt is fairly pathetic). Even though I can’t remember everyone’s name, I remember every match clearly. That’s one of the things that’s so cool about Jiu-Jitsu/grappling. You remember the smallest details. Just not important stuff like names…
White Belt: Wins 18 – Losses 45 - Draws 1 - No Contest 1
- GAMMA August 18, 2007 Nogi Match 1 win (points): This was my first ever grappling match. I was pretty nervous stepping on to the mats. Man, it was exhausting. Basically the whole thing is a take down match. I have since learned to get it to the ground much more quickly. If you notice there is a break in the video where everyone rushes over to me, I went head first in to a pillar and got KOd. Still got up and finished the match. I told the ref that I didn’t lose consciousness when I regained my faculties.
- GAMMA August 18, 2007 Nogi March 2 loss (arm triangle): That was one big and strong son-of-a-bitch! Take the obvious strength advantage and combine it with the concussion I received in the first match, and you will see I had no chance at all. Walked away with the bronze for the tourney.
- Tri-Star May 11, 2008 Nogi Match 1 win (points): I did pretty good here. Quality take down and some good body control. I didn’t have too many submissions in my repertoire at this point. Too bad. There were lots of opportunities.
- Tri-Star May 11, 2008 Nogi Match 2 loss (rear naked choke): Pretty poor showing. I remember that the choke happened so fast. This guy was really strong as well.
- Tri-Star May 11, 2008 Nogi Match 3 loss (arm bar): This was the first match of the absolute division. This guy was a new purple belt. Handled me pretty easily.
- Speedy Gym May 25, 2008 Nogi Match 1 win (armbar): Didn’t get video of the whole match. It went pretty quick. This was a teammate of mine.
- Speedy Gym May 25, 2008 Nogi Match 2 win (armbar): This match should not have lasted as long as it did. I look like a lumbering fool. The outcome was good though… Aside from a sore eye…
-
Speedy Gym May 25, 2008 Nogi Match 3 draw: Good match. It was a submission only round robin tourney, so going the distance resulted in a draw. Should have got my hooks in sooner…
- Speedy Gym May 25, 2008 Nogi Match 4 loss (Kimura): Awesome wrestler!
- Speedy Gym May 25, 2008 Nogi Match 5 loss (headlock?): I don’t know what the hell happened here. SUCKED!
- Speedy Gym May 25, 2008 Nogi Match 6 loss (americana): How could I hope to defeat this giant?
- GAMMA July 24, 2008 Nogi loss (toe hold): I was pretty much on the defense the entire match. Got out of a few good submission attempts. Ultimately I had to tap.
- Grizzly Gym vs Quebec Toe Hold Club November 9, 2008 Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 win (pin): This was a catch wrestling match with 3 rounds. You had to win 2 out of 3 by submission or pin. If there was no winner after 3 rounds, it was declared a draw. No points involved whatsoever. It was pretty back and forth. Man I was fat!
- Grizzly Gym vs Quebec Toe Hold Club November 9, 2008 Round 1 Round 2 loss (sleeve chokes): This guy is awesome. I’ve trained with him a number of times. I knew I didn’t have a chance.
- Club Kozak November 29, 2008 loss (injury – shoulder dislocate / pec tear): I have no video for this match. I was doing well. I got the take down and controlled position. I was threatening with submissions. Next thing I know, during a sweep attempt, my shoulder pops out and my left pec tares. Talk about pain!
- Grizzly Gym B.O.F. May 5, 2009 Match 1 loss (choke)
- Grizzly Gym B.O.F. May 5, 2009 Match 2 loss (choke)
- Grizzly Gym B.O.F. May 5, 2009 Match 3 loss (choke)
- Grizzly Gym B.O.F. May 5, 2009 Match 1 loss (armbar)
- Grizzly Gym Wendigo July 12, 2009 Match 1 win (guillotine)
- Grizzly Gym Wendigo July 12, 2009 Match 2 win (exhaustion)
- Grizzly Gym Canadian Pankration November 15, 2009 Match 1 loss (Americana): Look at the size of this monster!
- Grizzly Gym Canadian Pankration November 15, 2009 Match 2 loss (Americana): I felt like this was a really bad performance. I just couldn’t move.
- Grizzly Gym Canadian Pankration November 15, 2009 Match 3 win (Americana): I won and should have. This was my opponent’s first competition.
- Grizzly Gym Canadian Pankration November 15, 2009 Match 4 loss (Ankle Lock): This little guy’s team was right. It’s technique, not strength.
- Montreal Grappling August 20, 2012 Nogi Match 1 loss (points): My return match after a few years on hiatus.
- Montreal Grappling August 20, 2012 Nogi Match 2 loss (armbar): This guy won the division. He was very strong.
- Montreal Grappling August 20, 2012 Nogi Match 3 loss (armbar): I felt that I could have won this match. I made a couple critical errors that led to the armbar.
- Montreal Grappling August 20, 2012 Gi Match 1 loss (points): My first ever gi tournament. I have to say I felt like a fish out of water. I didn’t know what to do. At this point, training in a gi had been very limited.
- Montreal Grappling August 20, 2012 Gi Match 2 loss (armbar): What can I say? I lost.
- Montreal Grappling August 20, 2012 Gi Match 3 loss (sleeve Choke): I really had nothing left at this point in the day. This guy was a monster and it was only a matter of time.
- Montreal Grappling September 15, 2012 Nogi Match 1 loss (Kimura): Boo! Dumb mistake led to the submission. I was up on points too.
- Montreal Grappling September 15, 2012 Nogi Match 2 loss (Kimura): Winner of the division. He was a very strong wrestler. I didn’t have much of a chance.
- Montreal Grappling September 15, 2012 Nogi Match 3 loss (Kimura): No video of this match. I didn’t tap but the ref stopped it because he knew that I had been kimuraed pretty hard in match 1 on this shoulder.
- Montreal Grappling September 15, 2012 Nogi Match 4 loss (triangle): I wasn’t a challenge for my opponent. I feel embarrassed for him. lol
- Montreal Grappling November 10, 2012 Nogi Match 1 loss (guillotine): I was feeling confident going in to this match, but ultimately my poor skills let me down.
- Montreal Grappling November 10, 2012 Nogi Match 2 loss (points): I was dominated here but managed to hold off the triangle.
- Montreal Grappling November 10, 2012 Nogi Match 3 loss (ankle lock): This guy was an asshole. I saw him warming up by practicing foot stomps. He didn’t release the ankle lock right away. His excuse was he didn’t think a verbal submission counted. Fortunately his should was injured in his next match.
- Montreal Grappling November 10, 2012 Nogi Match 4 loss (DQ leg reap): Dominated in every way here. I accidentally reaped the leg so I was disqualified.
- Grizzly Gym – Allons-Gi! January 12, 2013 Gi Match 1 NC (win overturned for illegal submission)
- Grizzly Gym – Allons-Gi! January 12, 2013 Gi Match 2 win (sleeve choke)
- Ascension Championships January 19, 2013 Match 1 win (points): This was the first round match. There were plenty of times that I think I should have had points. I controlled several positions like the back and side control. I also had a good take down. The match ended 0-0 with 1 advantage to me… I should have submitted this guy.
- Ascension Championships January 19, 2013 Match 2 win (points): Very strong opponent for the semis. I received an advantage for an attempted soto gari. He also got an advantage for something but then had a penalty point for stalling. Ended 0-0 with 1 advantage each and a penalty to him.
- Ascension Championships January 19, 2013 Match 3 win (Americana): I’d had enough of the advantages. Seemed the ref wasn’t giving out points very easily. I pulled half guard, kimura swept and then hit the Amaricana for the GOLD MEDAL!!!
- Toronto Grappling February 16, 2013 Gi Match 1 loss (points): I was up on points but allowed a pass with seconds left in the match.
- Toronto Grappling February 16, 2013 Gi Match 2 loss (points): Dominated on the ground. I couldn’t get out from under or sweep. No Skills!!!
- Toronto Grappling February 16, 2013 Gi Match 3 win (points): I did ok. I wish I had submitted. Couple of good throws including my pattened Northern Lights Suplex.
- Toronto Grappling February 16, 2013 Gi Match 4 loss (points): Over matched and over powered. Went for an armbar and triangle but couldn’t finish.
- Toronto Grappling February 16, 2013 NoGi Match 1 loss (armbar): Over matched and over powered by a good wrestler. My lack of bottom game showed its ugly face again.
- Toronto Grappling February 16, 2013 NoGi Match 2 loss (triangle): Got the single, fell in to a triangle. Passed out a little.
- Toronto Grappling February 16, 2013 NoGi Match 3 loss (armbar): Some good scrambles and I had good posture. Ultimately I suck and he did not.
