Trouble Will Find Me

Over March break I got the opportunity to head out to Wyoming with my dad, my brother, and my uncle. The first two days were sunny and the snow seemed to be fading away but on that second night as soon as we were done skiing the clouds came out, snow began to fall and it was relentless to stop until the very last day.
Step by Step
Oh baby
Gonna get to you girl
This magnificent song by New Kids On The Block can have several metaphoric meanings. My blue belt is the girl. The steps are the strips on my white belt. Got another one tonight. I’m gonna get that girl!
After last weekend’s fuckery, I wasn’t injured, or even sore really. I had planned on getting back on the mats Monday night, but life has its ways of throwing a monkey wrench in to things. Turns out that on Monday, my mother would be rushed to the hospital from her long term care facility for a suspected stroke…
The good news was that she was not having a stroke. However, it turns out that she had an undiagnosed UTI. A simple infection right? Well that infection kept at its nasty little business until most of her body was riddled with it; sepsis. She very nearly died. Had the home waited any longer to send her to the ER, there is no doubt in my mind that she would have.
Thankfully she will be fine. They pumped her full of antibiotics and she’s on her way. She’ll be in the hospital for a couple more days. They want to monitor her heart as the infection affected it.
But enough of that. I’m hoping to get on the mats tonight. I have registered for 2 more tournaments. They will both be a first for me. A Masters/Seniors only tournament on June 1, and the Ottawa Open on June 22. They are both Gi only. Not my forté but I have 1 or 2 tricks up my sleeve (pun intended). I don’t need to worry about weight because I haven’t gained any back from last weekend (bloody marvelous). I just need to get out there to drill and roll…
